The mini op session on Saturday Oct 24, 2026 was a success. The weather was warm and sunny with temperature approaching 70 degrees late in the afternoon. We had either 15 or 16 persons participating.
The freight cars were pre-staged on Friday when Richard blew leaves off the main line. Saturday we began ops at a few minutes after 9 am. We had a couple of new people to introduce to operating. As people arrived, they went to the car barn and selected cars to begin switching.
There were a total of 9 freight trains running although not more than 6 or 7 were operating at any one time because some arrived late or left early plus there was 1 passenger train that ran all day.
With all of the freights and the passenger train running it got rather busy and times. Typically you wouldn't see another freight for a long time then you met several at the same town.
We operated until 4 pm and then picked up the cars and returned them to the car barn.
Also 2 new signal blocks that were installed from Lake City to Needles and Needles to Mirror Lake after the Oct 3 meet. Both blocks were operational and that helped because it is now difficult to see the other end of these blocks because of vegetation.
The mini op session three weeks ago on Oct 3, 2026 was also a success. It was also a warm sunny day. I recall a total of 14 persons participated. On Oct 3 we had 5 or 6 freights running, a yard switcher and 2 passenger trains running schedule 101 and 107. 107 runs exactly 30 minute after 101 so they meet each other at Summit. Summit is not a good place to be switching when the passenger trains come thru in opposite directions.
INTERESTED IN ANOTHER MINI SESSION THIS YEAR??
RESPOND WITH YES OR NO FOR NOV 14 AND YES OR NO FOR NOV 21. IF there is enough interest we will schedule one more mini op session for either Nov 14 or Nov 21. Sooooo. Please respond with a yes or no for both dates and I'll let you know if there are enough yes votes to schedule another mini op session for Nov.
I don't expect to have a mini op session in Dec or Jan unless we have some unusually very warm weather with no snow.
